How to become a Cost Engineer
Whether you are interested in an internship, a working student position, a part-time or full-time job – as an applicant, you need to think about what to expect and how you can best prepare yourself. To make it easier for you to become a cost engineer, we have put together the most important questions and answers for you.
Questions concerning the application process
How do I apply for a job at AWS?
We prefer that you apply online. Here you will find all open positions: AWS Cost Engineering & Innovation Partner – Open Positions (aws-cost-engineering.de). Click on the ‘Apply now’ button to be redirected to the online application form. The fields marked with an asterisk are mandatory. Please fill in all required fields accordingly. The cover letter is optional and can be added using the text field provided. Alternatively, you can also upload it as a file together with your CV and certificates.
Why can’t I see the job adverts and the application form?

What is Factorial.hr?
Factorial.hr is our internal HR software. We use it to manage applications and job adverts. As this is an externally integrated provider, it is necessary for you to consent to the processing of your data. All information about you is stored in compliance with the GDPR and is handled in accordance with German legislation and will be deleted after your application process.
Is it also possible to apply by e-mail?

How long does it take to receive feedback on an application?
You will generally receive feedback from us within two weeks.
What application documents are required?
To apply to us, we need your CV, which provides an overview of your previous professional experience and qualifications. If you have any further certificates, please attach them to give us a complete picture of your skills. A classic cover letter is not mandatory, but you are welcome to include it if you would like to tell us more about your motivation and goals. We look forward to hearing from you.
How does the interview process?
If we are impressed by your application documents, we will invite you to a 30-minute online interview. We will go through your CV together and discuss your expertise in the areas of production technology, materials science and cost accounting. If the interview is positive, we will invite you to an interview on site. This can either take place at our company headquarters in Au-Hallertau or alternatively in Stuttgart or Munich. At our meeting in person, we will use a case study to try to understand whether you would fit into our team and whether we can work together. Who will be involved in the interview?
The first online interview will usually take place with our HR officer and/or the management. Your future mentor can usually be present at the on-site interview.
What happens after the interview?
After the interview, we will discuss our impressions internally and normally get back to you within a week. If our decision is positive, we will discuss the contractual framework together and then send you your contract offer by e-mail. As soon as you have checked all the details, all you need to do is sign and there is nothing standing in the way of your successful start with us.
After the application process
Once the contract has been signed, we first need documents relating to labour law, such as your social security card and tax number. Once the paperwork has been completed, we will then plan your onboarding.
Your Onboarding at AWS
How does onboarding look at AWS?
As a new team member, we will provide you with a mentor who will support you during your onboarding period and act as a central source for all your questions. To make your start as smooth as possible, you will work on your own project in the first four weeks. This will allow you to quickly gain valuable knowledge in the field of Cost Engineering and at the same time get to know your new colleagues and the AWS tools. You will then be gradually integrated into larger projects. We will continuously train you as a cost engineer until you are able to carry out cost, value and emissions analyses independently.
What about the travelling requirement?
AWS is mainly active in the German-speaking region, but also operates throughout Europe and worldwide. In this context, a general willingness to travel is an important advantage. When planning project placements, however, we attach great importance to taking into account the personal wishes and concerns of our employees in order to ensure a good balance between professional requirements and individual needs.
Is working from home possible?
Yes, working from home is possible with us! If your current tasks allow it, you can work from home for up to 50% of your working hours after the probationary period.
Is there flexitime?
We offer flexitime with fixed core working hours. You can use our HR software to conveniently record your working hours and keep an eye on your time management. This also allows you to flexibly manage and compensate for overtime, giving you additional flexibility in your day-to-day work.
Is there a dress code?
As a consulting company, AWS attaches great importance to a professional outward appearance. Wearing a suit is therefore mandatory for client meetings. In the office, on the other hand, we maintain a ‘business casual’ dress code that allows for relaxed, yet appropriate and professional attire. In this way, we ensure a prestigious appearance for customers, while at the same time guaranteeing comfort in everyday office life.
